Susan, a graduate of the Northwest Vista College Braille Transcribing program, achieved Literary Braille Certification in July of 2008 and is employed by the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as a Braille Transcriber. She believes the ability to read Braille is essential to being a great transcriber.

"A transcriber cannot depend on software alone to catch every error or format a document correctly. To produce an error-free document takes the ability to thoroughly read your material."

After school hours she has transcribed menus for local Austin restaurants and is currently working with Read Naturally The Fluency Company, located in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Striving for increased knowledge and skill, Susan has began two professional-development projects; working toward proficiency and certification in the Nemeth Braille Code for Mathematics and Science and Creating Accessible Documents for Screen Readers and Refreshable Braille Devices.
